first ordered the 8 which was huge. Liked the cushioning so I ordered the 7.5 and it was fine. After wearing it around a bit I just found the outsole too stiff. It needs to be like that for real hiking–not so much for city hiking! This is a great, supportive, well cushioned hiker–may have to go 1/2 size down. A bit too stiff for me to use as a walking shoe in town.

The toe box is room, yay! No cramped toes. I needed a half size smaller than I normally wear in a sneaker. I have an older Keen hiking boot in a 9 so I figured a 9 would work.

I am on my feet all day long and my day is spent on concrete floors. I have been searching for a boot or shoe that, by the end of the day, my feet aren’t killing me. I have difficulty finding a boot that doesn’t rub on my foot near my little toe. These boots do not do that. They feel slightly wide and I have a hard time keeping them tight but for me, these boots have been worthy every penny I paid for them. I removed the insole as I wear orthotics and I am extremely happy that my feet don’t ache at the end of the day. I haven’t seen how waterproof they are but so far my feet have been warm and dry. I also think these are a good looking boot and I appreciate the reflecting strips, when walking my dogs at night.

I retired my last pair of Keen hikers sometime in the early 2000s. Looking for a taller profile than a sneaker, as well as a waterproof outer, I returned to Keen and picked the Targhee III. I was recommended to buy my regular size (8.5), which felt huge. Thankfully Zappos has amazing policies and I was able to return and replace for a half size smaller. The Size 8 is still roomy in places, but with a hiking sock, I think they’ll be just right.
The shoes are super comfortable, right out of the box. I have been wearing them on on walk to and from my office everyday. I arrive with warm and dry feet no matter what the weather. I have not yet taken them out for long periods (or a hike for that matter), but I am confident they’ll support me well. The shoes are solidly constructed. My only complaint is the final lace loop- it’s fabric, not leather. I don’t feel I can tight the shoe as tight as I’d like to. However, the shoe fits fine and there is no foot slippage. I am very happy with my purchase and will remain a devoted Zappos customer.

I ordered a 10 and they were a perfect fit. I had plenty of room in the toe, an issue that I sometimes struggle with. And they are indeed waterproof! We are having an extremely rainy bit of weather the I have been having to walk through some fairly deep puddles. I don’t know if they would be waterproof if you stuck your foot completely underwater (since the do lace up and I think it would be difficult to make that part waterproof) but I walked through water that came up the side almost to the laces and I was fine. No leaks.
I bought these to take on a spring trip to Europe. I like to travel as light as possible and don’t want to take multiple pairs of shoes (I will take a pair of sandals, but they are lightweight) so I bought these since they are waterproof in case of rain (Spring in Europe = likely rain). They are like lightweight hikers in my opinion. Not any heavier than a pair of athletic shoes but built a little sturdier. I think they will work well for walking, mostly on city streets, where there will likely be rain as well.

I’m usually a 9 in regular shoes. I do go up a full size and sometime a size and a half for running shoes because I have long toes. So I should have been thinking about that when I ordered these Keen’s. I’m sure a 9.5 or 10 would have been a better fit for me but I didn’t really like the style on my foot. It pushed on the side of my pinky toes too much. I have a very long foot and this shoe is more suited for square-ish feet if that makes any sense. I ended up ordering Vasques Talus AT Low Ultradry instead and those are probably the most comfortable shoes I own. They looked nicer, too.

I wanted to love these. They are cute, true to size and felt great except once I started walking around the house just a little they were digging into the inside of both my ankles causing pain. Sadly I’m sending them back.

I found this pair of hikers to be almost perfect for my needs. The toe box Is plenty roomy, the ankle area isn’t too wide, the materials are quality and sturdy. My only wish would be for it to be a bit lower in height, as I found it does rub a bit, but it’s okay with thick socks.

Great fit! Great comfort! This was a replacement for a similar pair that came to the end of a very long and useful life. I have worn the new pair daily for the past two weeks or so while I am out and about walking the dog in the neighborhood and in the woods. I’m very satisfied with this purchase.

I wanted to like these, but they were too rigid around my ankles and made the fit pretty uncomfortable. I returned them and bought some Columbia’s, which worked out much better.

Solid shoe but too hot w/the leather for my intended purpose. I already have a Keen waterproof hiking boot (non leather) so I returned it. Still a GREAT value though.

The shoes fit great and feel great, and the best part is they are waterproof. No more wet socks after walking in tall grass each morning. Many shoes are advertised as waterproof but they are NOT. I know, I’ve tried several brands with little or no luck. Now my border collie and I walk each morning enjoying the dew but not feeling it.

I own 3 other pairs of Keen boots currently in use. Old ones were wearable right out of the box. Also they all have large toebox and snug heel. New ones very stiff which would be okay if the fit was good. They are too snug in the front and I was unable to tighten the laces enough to keep the heels from slopping up and down. Sigh! Returning and still looking for replacement.

This shoe feels very bulky, but supportive and comfy on my wide-ish foot with very high arches. I just cannot get around how big it looks. I know it is a hiking shoe and I think it looks ok with jeans or pants with a full ankle, but I would sometimes want to wear them with leggings, etc and I feel like I am wearing clown shoes. Sorry, Keen. I still think you are awesome.

I ordered these hiking shoes because I already own a pair and love them – but am wearing them out. However, they must have changed something slightly because the top hits the bone in my ankle and hurts. Sadly, I am returning them. If only they fit like my original pair! Everything else about these hiking shoes was great.

I don’t know what Keen has done to their shoes but this is the third pair I have tried recently, and none are good. I have worn Keens for years and thousands of hiking miles. The Targhee II has a loose-fitting heel now (I tried two different pairs) and the Targhee III (waterproof) is cut higher and the very stiff side of the shoe hits my ankle bone, very uncomfortable. Additionally, this shoe is very hard and stiff, it feels more like one of those uncomfortable rental bowling shoes! Keen has been the only shoe wide enough for me, so after also trying Merrell Moab and an Oboz Sawtooth, I don’t know what to try now!

I have worn this shoe for years and have absolutely loved every pair: great for hiking and walking. However, this specific pair was cut very strangely. The laces were 1 inch wider than previous pairs and the backs of the shoes were higher and hit my ankle bones, which had never happened before. I am so disappointed.

On a mission to find a new pair of lo sturdy hikers for 6-10 hour day hikes in varied terrain. I ordered these Keens and 2 Lowas (models Not avail on Zappos) since I have been a big Lowa fan over the years. I also ordered Salomon Outline GTX and XA Collider to have a full range of comparison. These Keens were stylish and comfy– the toe box /midfoot was wider than I needed which I’ve experienced in Keen’s. They were by no means uncomfortable though. They had a more structured/stiff feel to them which was readily apparent when I tried on the Lowas ( Locarno lo and Toro Evo lo) which were comfortably conforming and felt noticeably more cushioned and less stiff. I would’ve kept these Keen’s had I not had the comparisons. I really liked both Salomons fit and feel but I feel these are not as seriously built for serious hiking as I require. I did keep the Salomon Outline GTX though because of the lightweight comfy fit I felt I could use them on light hiking/walking days or even lite trail running. Just goes to show that trying on a bunch of styles all at once is super helpful and I’m glad Zappos facilitates doing this with returns.

Quite uncomfortable out of the box

I haven’t tried these on the trail yet but as far as fit goes, they are a good fit. I normally need a wide shoe (W or D width), but these B width fit comfortably with a medium weight sock. Definitely cannot wear with a heavy sock.
Charlene –
I have to return these, the ankle area on the left shoe is very High and rubs on the ankle. It would be miserable if worn for any length of time
Shana –
I’ve been on a two year search for replacements for my Keen Targhee EXP. These were close but the sides around my ankles are higher, just enough to rub on the bottom of my ankle. I’m so disappointed. ?
Heather –
I might have liked these, but the pair I was sent clearly had a flaw in the right shoe. Hard to describe, but there was a bunch of material in the right shoebox that made the shoe very uncomfortable. The left shoe was fine.

I ordered these to replace an identical pair that I’d worn for several months. These feel narrower. Perhaps the old pair were tight but stretched eventually, I’m not sure. But these were not comfortable (width). That said, if you wear a medium width shoe and are looking for a firm shoe, one that will handle irregular paths and provide strong support this is great shoe.

Received these the day before we left on a trip, so ended up having to break them in on the walk through the airport. Took them through 67 miles of walking/hiking through Italy (including Cinque Terre) and they were fantastic! Great traction, fit, and comfort – not clunky, caused no blisters, and they’re still like new. So very happy with these!
