Samantha –
These hiking shoes are AWESOME and I’m quickly becoming a big fan of Keen. I work at an animal rescue shelter…sometimes walking dogs up to 10 miles a day and I love to go on hiking trips, so I was looking for something “waterproof”, comfortable, and stylish that could keep up with me throughout the day. The toebox is very roomy, which is great because I have wide feet and the arch support is decent… has a lil’ squish to it 🙂 which works fine with me though if you’re more sensitive I’d perhaps try shoe insoles. I felt they were true to size ( I ordered a size 9) though I do tend to sway between sizes 8.5–9 depending on the shoes, so if you feel that you would benefit from more room, I would order a half size up if available. Overall, very pleased with these hikers and I’m looking forward to adventures wearing them. Good Luck to ya’ll and happy walking! <3

I have owned 4 or 5 different Keen shoes over the years. I am a size 8.5 M in most shoes, but have always worn a 9M in Keens. I ordered the 9M and was true to size and width. I am returning them because they were too warm on my feet just wearing them around the house for 20 minutes. They a stiff shoe and weren’t the most comfortable for me. I would have to break them in and I would be afraid to take the chance of them not becoming comfortable enough. My feet are sensitive to pressure so it is difficult to find just the right fit/shoe. The search continues. I don’t know what I’d do without Zappos. !! Love, love you Zappos!

Super durable shoes. Not a precise fit, but good for general tromping around. Waterproofing is nice for a bit of snow, wet grass, or a little rain. Downside is if they do get really wet, they take days to dry and they can be sweaty when the weather warms up. A bit clunky and heavy, but correspondingly protective on talus or in cactus.

I have had many pairs of these over the years and I keep coming back to them. I have a wide forefoot and average heel with surgeries on both feet and these are the most comfortable, waterproof shoes I’ve found. I generally wear a 9 1/2 women’s though I have also had these in a men’s 8. The outers are really durable. The interior heel linings usually wear through first which doesn’t really impact much except aesthetics, but that’s why I gave them a 4. The opening of the shoe is a bit large but works well for me as I also have a really high arch and instep so the extra room is helpful, I do have to cinch the laces down pretty snuggly at the top (ankle area) so they don’t slop around but this works for me. I like the color of the dark brown and berry. The Keen toe protector and style makes a rather substantial shoe look smaller which is also nice in my book. Don’t usually write reviews but I read them diligently so this I consider a give-back that hopefully will help someone else. Happy shoe shopping.

I love Keens. I haven’t had to buy any for several years and I guess they changed them. They need an insert for more cushion. and the top shoe string hole digs into my ankle. Not enough of a complaint to return them, but I am sad that like others, Keens has changed how their product

I’ve worn these hiking shoes for years and love them. I have some foot problems and these are the only shoes that I can wear for long distance walking or hiking. I usually wear a size 8 in regular shoes, but wear a 9 in these. The toe is really wide and roomy and I can use my own inserts which help cushion the ball of my feet which is my issue. I find it’s helpful to replace the shoes every 2-3 years since by then I’ve worn them down a bit from constant use. I’ve worn them in the snow, on hiking trials, and all over the world in my travels. They aren’t hot in warm weather either.

I was advised that these ran small, so ordered a 9 vs. my usual 8 1/2. They fit fairly well, –as I would expect a nine to fit– as long as I wear a heavier sock with them. I believe the 8 1/2 WOULD be too small. Since they are otherwise of the great construction –great outer sole, toe bumper, functional lacing — that always brings me back to Keens, and they have those features [like the heel pull tab, double thumbs up?] I like and expect, I will keep this pair: they will get a lot of time in the spring garden and road walking.

I’ve been hiking in Keens for years, but my last pair started to fall apart near the sole after less than a year. So, I ordered the same style and same size, but the heel is not the same; it is much wider than my last pair and slips quite noticeably. This would cause big problems with all the hiking I do, so sadly, I am returning them and trying Oboz. Also, Keens do not have great arch support, I’d call it minimal, but it is not an option in the drop-down menu. It’s easily remedied with Superfeet insoles though. Not sure what is happening to Keens!

I needed something more sturdy to work outside and go on day hikes. I love Keen’s so there was no real question in my mind as to what brand, it was really just what style I wanted. I normally wear size 8.5 but ordered 9 based on recommendations. It was a good call. The 9’s are a perfect size with a pair of lightweight hiking socks. I love them and look forward to many years of adventures together.

My podiatrist recommended these for me because i need a bigger toe box and good arch support. They fit great and are helping with my injury recovery. These are now my gardening, work shoed for my small ranch and hiking shoes sometime in the future when my nerve is healed. Very pleased

This is my second pair of Keen Targhee hiking shoes. I love the stable sole, comfort, and waterproofing. I had the first pair for almost 7 years and over 150 mountain hikes. I really want to compliment Zappos for customer service. I bought the same size shoe as last time but these are now an updated style (Targhee 2) and ran large (quite wide actually. Think Shrek.). I received the correct size but I thought they were Wides ( I misinterpreted the W for women). I called and they rushed the “correct” size to my house before our hiking trip. I realized my mistake and ordered another pair half size down. They fit perfectly.

I followed the reviews and went a 1/2 size up and I didn’t need to. This is my 8th pair of Keens and I should have just gone with my original size 8.

I love these shoes and I’m going to buy another pair. My only complaint is that the soles manage to trap all sorts of filth in the design – like even the smallest amount of mud or dirt gets trapped and takes forever to come out. Not a big problem unless you are around a lot of farm animals like me. But it also provides great traction on muddy trails, so there’s that.

The shoe fit a little big at 8.5 the reviews said to order a half size up but I didn’t need it. Oh well used the shoes I’m keeping the shoes for that factor instead of returning them. Took a small 2mile hike with them very nice hiking shoes can’t wait to see how it does in water. Being that they said the shoes are waterproof. Overall a very comfortable hiking shoe. I would recommend this shoe. Just stay true to size.

I got these in my usual size, 9.5. The toe area was great for my wide front of the foot, but the heel was too wide and my foot slipped around unless I put on my thickest winter hiking socks. Because the heel-lock lace is the top-most lace, cinching that tighter also pulled the laces so hard that it pinched the front of my ankle and made the tongue bunch up rather than stay in place. I tried creative lacing to hold my foot in better, which is possible with the extra long laces Keen provides, but I couldn’t find a way to do it that worked for my foot. Arch support and padding under the toes was non-existent, they hurt my feet until I added my own insoles (which I usually need to do).
There was room for my own insoles, and the space in the toe area was great. I love the rubber bumper around the toe that Keen shoes have, I just wish I could find a pair that fits.

I have owned many of these same Keen boots. They are great. I am a hike leader and many of the hikers in my group also wear Keen boots.
Marie –
I loved these they fit perfectly. But my heel slip out as I walk. This is a problem… I love love love them but that slip is dangerous to have.
Shana –
Toe box is a lot narrower than my Targhee EXP. I’m so sad that Keen changed things up. I’m still looking for a replacement. I hate to give up on Keen.
Lisa –
Super comfortable! I walk about 30-35 miles a week. I usually buy Keene but last time I bought another brand of comparable price. It was a huge mistake. They were not as comfortable or durable, and the heels could not withstand the miles. I will only but Keene from now on.

Love these but they were too big when I ordered my regular size. So I sent them back, sadly.

I have had many pairs of this hiking shoe. I do a lot of walking and hiking and over the course of a few years, I manage to wear them out. The front of the shoe is nice and wide for comfort. I’ve learned that it’s important to tie them tightly so that they don’t slip in the heel, but that hasn’t been an issue. I’ve tried on a lit of different brands and the Keens are the most comfortable for my foot shape. I’ve worn these for hiking and also on long trips where a lot of walking is involved. The fact that they are waterproof really helps. The removable insole allows me to use an orthotic too. I highly recommend these.

Great shoes – I already had the Targhee hiking boot for a few years. Have a very problematic foot which when I’m wearing either of these (old and new) don’t have any trouble walking and walking 3-4 miles per day. Wide toe area leaves plenty of room for toes, bunions, etc.

IMHO, these shoes are true to Keen quality. They were comfortable, albeit a bit large, and nice and roomy in the toe box. I also loved the dark, mute colors, as typically you can only find such schemes in men’s shoes. Unfortunately, I received previously worn shoes in less-than satisfactory condition. There were scuffs all over and part of the side support-ribbon was melted where someone had clearly tried to burn a loose thread! Come-on, Quality Control!!

I usually wear a 9.5 in athletic shoes. I ordered a 9.5 and it was too big. I returned and ordered a 9. I still have to wear two pair of socks with the 9 but I think the 8.5 would be too small. I hike in the shoes and they are great!

Unfortunately, the shoes are a bit heavy for this 80 year old
