Wow.
I’ve been a Keen customer for quite a while, wearing the Austin for years. Love ’em.
This Targhee Exp Mid is a super comfortable, lightweight, and stable boot. Great wet-rock traction, too.
The fit is perfect (true size 10), with the classic Keen toebox.
I spent 2 full days in them (hiking, yard-work, etc.), right out of the box without issues (I know a bit risky). Ordering a second pair for backup. Way to go Keen!
FWIW, I’ve been in my Patagonia Drifter A/Cs for 5 years… they’ve seen 47 waterfalls in Georgia. They were great. RIP.

I wore these around the house a few times to get a feel for them before deciding to put them to the test today and go on a hike.
The hike was 5 miles with 1,500 ft of climb. They performed beautifully!
They are 3/4 lb lighter than my old boots but still have excellent traction and stability.
I typically wear a 14 but the 14 felt a little snug. I easily returned them to Zappos and got the 15.
Can’t say enough about how great they felt. Looking forward to using them again soon!

Have enjoyed Keen boots for years and was looking for a replacement to my all time favorite, Keen Utility Louisville 6″
Thought these Targhee might be cooler in the summer, and decided to order the EE WIDE.
Unfortunately when I tried them on my foot just didn’t feel secure as the EE WIDE was too big.
Additionally, coming from primarily leather uppers on my boots, the synthetic feeling of these just felt cheaply made and lacking the durability I need from my boots.

These are my second pair of Keen hiking boots (have the Targhee Mid II’s as well) and these are every bit as comfortable as the other ones… with a few differences. You do still need to order 1/2 size larger than normal.
First off, the tread/sole is more aggressive than the Mid II’s, especially around the toe area – much better when you need that extra grip (which I did tromping through some snow and ice in Montana last week!!). The tread pattern looks more grippy/climbing as opposed to just hiking. Not implying one is better than the other, but the Exp handled the snow and ice marginally better than the Mid II’s did in my non-scientific opinion.
The upper is also a bit different in that it is more solid than the Mid II (the Mid II has more mesh) and seems a little warmer probably due to airflow. There IS mesh on the Exp’s just seems tighter or a different weave and there is less of it (area).
The outsole on the Exp Mids seem a little lower in profile than the II’s however, as stated above, the soles on the Exp are more aggressive.
The lacing system is pretty much the same except for the hook eye at the ankle on the Exp is a bit more robust looking as is the padding in the area.
Similar to the II’s is the fit and already broken-in feel and are super comfy right out of the box! These boots truly feel great, look cool, and can be dressed up or down! Oh, if you have TSA Pre-Check these will not set off the metal detector…
Thanks, Keen and Zappos!!

I got these for my husband (with lots of input from him!) He’s worn out two pairs of the Keen hiking sandals in the last few years and wanted Keen hiking boots. These are light weight but feel very sturdy. Practically no break-in time. I like the “fit” guides – he normally wears 10.5 but his sandals are 10s. Turns out those sandals run large, but the “fit” guide for this model indicated they are true to size – and they fit perfectly! When these wear out, we’ll be back!

Good looking, functional, and comfortable shoe. Own multiple styles of Keens, this is the first time I needed to go 1/2 size larger than my size (and all the rest of my Keen’s) once I got the size figured out, they are performing awesome!

Love them so far they seem better constructed then all the others I looked at especially the toe. All the other hiking boot have a glued on piece that that up the toe and without fail that comes apart every time. These are constructed better!

great shoe/boot – I use them for walking the golf course. No break in period.

I was surprised to unpack these boots and find them all synthetic, when I’m used to my (many) Keens having leather somewhere on them. I decided to try them anyway, and was pleased, as I almost always am, by the Keen comfort and fit. The problem comes with the waterproofing, and the footbed. Where I live in Appalachian Ohio, I often ford streams and the grass is almost always wet in the morning when I hike. I noticed a problem with waterproofing right away, and was disgusted to find water squishing between my toes on a cold morning, just from walking through wet grass! I dried them out and sprayed them with Camp-Dry silicone, which helped for awhile, and then they got wet again. This set off a revolting odor (like cat pee) which is due to poor anti-microbial protection in the footbed (a Keen bug that they have yet to fix). I had no choice but to wash them, since I couldn’t pack them in a suitcase smelling like that. Any residual waterproofing they had disappeared, and now they’re no better than sneakers in the rain. Zappos to the rescue! They refunded my purchase price, even though I was a month past the 365 day guarantee. I’m writing this review because I suspect that 95% of reviews are written in the first flush of pride upon purchasing and wearing new shoes, and I wanted to give a reality check, 13 months out from purchase. They aren’t waterproof; at least this pair isn’t, and as such they are worthless for anything but dry summer yard wear. Keen, do you have a boot that IS waterproof? I’ll buy it.

Reading other reviews about these being a smaller fit, I ordered a size 10 and they arrived on Monday. That pair was too big, so returned them and exchanged them for a 9.5. They arrived the next day, Tuesday. What service!!
As for the shoes, I went on a 6 mile inaugural hike which covered a lot of different terrain, mud, water, rocks, etc. All is excellent: fit, comfort, waterproof. I like that there are only one set of hooks for the laces, much easier to lace up. These are keepers.

The boot fit right out of the box – almost – when I took the wad of paper out of the boots and went to try them on some joker had stuffed a smaller piece of paper wad in the right boot. When I took that out they fit very well. We live in the mountains where the ground is rocky and these boots have a good strong bottom so I do not feel the rocks and they are snug but comfortable. Glad I bought them…

I bought these boots for my husband for our trip to Yellowstone and the Tetons last week. He was immediately impressed with the comfort and support of these boots right from the box. He wore them on our trip without any break in time .He was very happy with the fit and comfort during our 7 days of moderate hiking. His feet stayed dry in the rainy weather and puddles that we hiked through.
He highly recommends these boots for the average/moderate hiker.

Pleased with these all around. Color was a little different from the picture.

The shoes are very comfortable and the break in period is only 1-2 days.

My husband is a hard sell on a pricy pair of shoes. He loves these and has not taken them off since they arrived. He accidentally spilled gasoline on them and hosed them off while wearing and they are truly waterproof.

These are great hikers. They’re very stable and the fit was just right. Light weight compared to other ones I’ve tried. First time out did 5 miles and they felt already broken in. Definitely recommend.

One shoe was perfectly finished. The other had gaps where the glue was not applied well and the stitching on another area was poor. Gaps in the toe area also.

Very comfortable!

My go to boot foot everyday general stuff at work.

I’ve had Targee II and these have been a great upgrade. Light weight, dry fast and the soul has great support and better traction.

I hope they never stop making these boots. I buy 2 pair a year!
